Sånt som torparen
höll i sin hand
Föremålen som visas i denna
Internetutställning har tillverkats eller funnits i hemmen hos landsbydens folk i Västbobygden i sydvästra Småland, i huvudsak
under torparperiodens slutfas under skiftet mellan 1800- och 1900-talen.
Det handlar om verktyg eller
vardagsprylar från bostaden eller ladan hos en
torpare från denna tid.
Hur såg det ut i
torparens hem?
I jämförelse med bonden, i dennes gård
och stuga, skilde sig tillhörigheterna kanske inte så mycket -
bortsett från graden av välstånd och hur väl utrustad familjen var
med det som behövdes för arbete och liv.
Bondens och torparens liar,
smörbyttor, räfsor och spadar såg i stort sett likadana ut. Den
som var fattigare fick väl lappa och laga mer på sina saker och den
som hade råd kunde kosta på sig nytt och sånt som var gjort med
bättre material.
Nyheter och uppfinningar som
togs i bruk fick oftast först fäste högre upp i den sociala
rangskalan, men tog sig till slut ned i samhällslagren.

What the crofter
held in his hand
The items put forward
in this Internet exhibition have been fabricated or used in the
homes of country side people in the Västbo area, in the south west
part of Småland, mainly during the final phase of the crofters era,
in the shifting between 1800 - 1900´s.
It´s tools and
things of the daily life which could be found in the cottage or the
barn at the crofter´s holding.
How did it look
like at the crofter´s?
In comparison with the
farmer, at his farm or in his house, the belongings might not differ
- except the degree of wealth and how well equiped the family was
with the needs for work and life.
The scythes,
butter boxes, rakes and spades looked similar both at the crofter´s
and the farmer´s. The poorer one had to patch up and fix more on his
belongings and the one who afforded could buy new goods and things
made of better materials.
News and
inventions which came in use mostly started higher up in the social
and the economical scale of the society, but finaly came down in the
lower layers.
At the
